Trick or Treat?

Trick or Treat?

The answer is TREAT, because this is the last week of Stampin' Up!'s Special Offers and it includes at least one MUST HAVE product...the Layering Ovals framelits dies!  There are several layering die sets in the catalog and I love them all because they include both smooth and scalloped edges, which are perfect for layering.  This framelit set is normally $35.00, but if you order a set before September 21, you'll save 25% and only pay $26.25! Now THAT'S a treat!

I'm sharing a card today where I used the oval framelits in a different way than basic layering. I hope you'll agree it is as neat as I thought it was!  I really wanted the Pumpkin Pie Glimmer paper "moon" to pop, so I only used black and gray on the rest of the card.  I love it!

Step by Step

To complete this project, you'll need cardstock cut to the following sizes:

5-1/2" x 8-1/2" Smoky Slate (card base)

4" x 5-1/4" Halloween Night Designer Series Paper

4" x 4" Basic Black to cut tree

Pieces of Smoky Slate big enough to cut oval and pumpkin pieces

Piece of Basic Gray big enough to cut fence

1)  I like to cut out all my pieces at one time so I stamped the pumpkins on a piece of Smoky Slate cardstock using Smoky Slate ink first.  I then layed out the pumpkin piece, the oval (Smoky Slate cardstock), the fence (Basic Gray cardstock) and the tree (Basic Black cardstock) onto my Big Shot platform and cut them with the dies.

2)  Adhere fence piece to the backside of the tree piece.  Use the 1-1/2" circle punch to punch the moon out of Pumpkin Pie Glimmer paper.  Adhere to cut oval.  Adhere tree piece to oval.  (I placed my tree so that the tips of the highest branches were over-hanging the oval.)  Flip oval over so you can see where the tree and fence over-hang at the bottom and use scissors to carefully trim off excess tree and fence pieces (to maintain the oval shape from the front).  Stamp bats in Basic Black ink.

3)  On back side of Halloween Night DSP, apply two dabs of adhesive where your twine will go.  Adhere one end of twine to adhesive dab, wrap twine around front of DSP and adhere to other adhesive dab.  Cut twine.  Adhere DSP to card base.  Adhere oval piece over DSP toward the top left side (slipping it under the twine slightly at the bottom).  Stamp "trick or treat" in Basic Black ink over pumpkins and adhere to card front in the bottom right corner.  Tie a bow on the twine running across the card front.

These are the products I used for this project:
