Happy Sunday Stampers! Thanks for stopping by my page as you hop along in this month's Scrapbook Sunday Blog Hop! This month we're following a sketch:
The photo I decided to use on my page is one of my favorite's of my husband and my daughter, Regan. They've always enjoyed doing "sporty" things together--basketball is a favorite!--so when she invited him to run a 5K with her on Father's Day in gorgeous Carmel, he was all in!
After I chose the photo, I went through my designer series paper stash to see what I thought would work well with the picture and settled on the pretty Naturally Eclectic collection. Along with some coordinating colors, I thought there was just enough blue to set off the blue of the ocean behind them. The first thing I did was cut the accent pieces behind the photo and the flags in the top right corner showing in the template. I thought the stitched circle cut from gold foil was a fun replication of the medals in the photo!
Even though I liked the layout, I wasn't happy with quite so much white space behind the photo so I decided to add a big piece of DSP in the background. When I'm scrapbooking, I have to say that's one thing I LOVE about our DSP...I have several patterns to choose from in every collection and they always go together! What could be easier than that?
The other change I made was where I put my journaling. Because I used the DSP in the background, it didn't look right to have a journaling block right next to the photo and I'm always afraid to write directly on something I can't cover up if I make a mistake...I ended up cutting a strip to fit on the right edge. To get the writing to fit perfectly, I always write out what I want to say on a piece of scratch paper to see how much room I'll need before writing it on the paper I'm going to use on my finished project.
