Global Design Project #059 - Baby Kitty

Global Design Project #059 - Baby Kitty

Anybody who knows me, knows how much I love my pets--I have four dogs and since my kids are grown, they are my babies--so I was really excited to see the Global Design Project theme this week was pets!  I want to think that this project would be perfect for someone who just added a new kitten to their family!

I want to tell you a little secret...I came home yesterday after work with a 100 ideas in my head (well, maybe 100 is a bit of exaggeration, but I had quite a few!).  Got to my desk, pulled out stamp sets and paper and....nothing.  Nothing was working the way I saw it in my head!  You have no idea how many projects were started and ended up in the trash.  Gah!  I hate it when that happens! I finally gave up last night and went to bed.

This morning I started again, with no picture in my head at all.  I decided to focus on just one set (I had pulled out everything that had animals in it yesterday).  Watercoloring is my favorite so I started there.  An idea here and there and....my project finally came together.  I tell you all this to say that sometimes our projects DON'T work out just the way we planned.  Sometimes they don't work out at ALL and get filed in the trash (it's okay!), or they turn out different than we had intended (but still make us happy)...sometimes there are even happy accidents where something didn't go quite as planned but became something really cool!  Stamping, like any art form, is a process...just keep at it until you're satisfied with the final result!

Be sure to head over to the Global Design Project to see all the great pet/animal projects everybody did...and play along, if you'd like!

Step by Step

To complete this project, you'll need cardstock cut to the following sizes:

4-1/4" x 11" Mint Macaron (card base)

3-1/2" x 4-3/4" Mint Macaron

3-5/8" x 4-7/8" Sahara Sand

2-1/2" x 2-1/2" Watercolor paper

Scrap watercolor paper (for cat) and Dazzling Diamonds glimmer paper

1)  Use an aqua painter with Mint Macaron ink to wash the background on to the watercolor paper.  Let dry.  Stamp star image across watercolor paper using Mint Macaron ink.  Stamp cat image on to scrap watercolor paper using Basic Black ink.  Use an aqua painter with Sahara Sand and Tip Top Taupe to color image.  Let dry, then cut out.  Cut a "v" into the bottom of the Dazzling Diamonds glimmer paper, then wrap linen thread a couple of times around it and tie a bow on the front.  Adhere to top left of watercolor background piece.  Adhere cat to bottom right corner of watercolor background piece.

2)  Use the Big Shot and Large Polka Dot embossing folder to emboss 3-1/2" x 4-3/4" Mint Macaron cardstock.  Cut out a 3/4" section.  Adhere top section on to Sahara Sand, then bottom section, leaving a gap for sentiment.  Stamp sentiment in gap using Basic Black ink.  Adhere to card base.  Adhere watercolor piece to card front.
