I love playing along with the Global Design Project because I feel like it stretches my creativity. I would play even if there weren't "winners", but I have to say it's a special treat when I go to the GDP page on Monday morning and see that my project is one of the winners. Thank you to the team for choosing last week's card! If you missed it, you can see it by clicking HERE.
This week's challenge is a color combination:
I wasn't too sure about putting these together but WOW, I love the result...that's what I mean about stretching my creativity. It makes me try things I woudn't have thought to try without being challenged to do it!
I decided to keep my project Christmas-themed and wanted to ink Cheery Chirps one more time before Christmas is over. I love the sweet images in this set. It's on the retiring list so if you plan to add it to your collection, you don't have long! I usually sell my retired stamps but there's a good possibility this set will be staying in my collection (I do keep a very small selection of retired stamps, if I really love them!)
I started by heat embossing the bird using VersaMark ink and gold embossing powder. I watercolored the image and around the image using Real Red, Crumb Cake and Lemon Lime Twist inks and an Aqua Painter. I really wanted the colors to be vibrant so I didn't water down the ink as much as I usually do...I'm going to have to do that more often!
Once it was all dry, I tore the edges and kind-of curled them a bit to add some texture. Of course, I had to flick some Wink of Stella on it as well. :)
I wanted to add just a little more color to the Crumb Cake layer so before I ran it through the Big Shot in the Pinewood Planks embossing folder, I smudged the edges with my Crumb Cake stamp pad. I embossed the sentiment onto Real Red cardstock and clipped the ends to flag them. All the pieces were then layered onto a Lemon Lime Twist card front.
I used the following products on this project:
Be sure to head over to the Global Design Project page to see all the beautiful ideas this week!
Until next time...happy stampin'!
