Hello stampin' friends! Today I'm excited to share a card made with arguably the stinkin' cutest set in this year's catalog, Animal Outing. I was drawn to this set from the first time I saw it but wasn't able to order it until recently (I'm pacing myself this year...sort-of!), and this is the first chance I've had to play with it. I LOVE it!!
You'll find the Animal Expedition suite on pages 26 and 27 of the 2018-19 Stampin' Up! catalog...yep, it's got a little bit of everything! In addition to the Animal Outing stamp set which is available in either wood or clear mount, this suite includes the Animal Expedition designer series paper and a cardstock pack (with super fun colors Berry Burst, Lemon Lime Twist and Pool Party!), as well as Leaf ribbon, Frames wood elements and the Animal Friends thinlits dies (which can be bundled with the stamp set for a 10% savings). Squeeeee, sooooo cute!
I started this card by stamping the rhino in Sahara Sand ink onto a piece of watercolor paper, then using inks from the lids of Sahara Sand, Gray Granite, Powder Pink, Bermuda Bay and Crushed Curry and an Aqua Painter to watercolor the image. I really like the way the Sahara Sand creates a much softer outline for the watercolor than black ink would. I'm (not so) patiently waiting for my framelits to arrive so I had to fussy cut him out...which makes me EXTRA thankful for framelits! :)
I used the Stitched Shapes framelits to cut both the circles...the larger one is cut from a piece of the Animal Expedition designer series paper and the smaller one is cut from Lemon Lime Twist cardstock (with the sentiment stamped in Sahara Sand). I have recently discovered that the best way to layer watercolor paper onto my cards is with a few Mini Glue Dots. Because the paper gets wet, it tends to curl and can pull away from a project without a strong adhesive. I also like the way it still pulls away around the edges and adds a touch of dimension.
The background is a piece of Sahara Sand cardstock which I ran through the Big Shot in the Layered Leaves embossing folder...isn't this the perfect folder for this stamp set??!! Since I haven't used the Wood Textures designer series paper on any recent projects, I was happy that it went so well on this card! Before adding it to the left side of my background piece, I wrapped linen thread around it a couple of times and secured it with a bow on the front. This was all layered onto my Sahara Sand card base with Stampin' Dimensionals.
The Buy 3, Get 1 FREE! sale is still going on for a few more days! Both the Animal Expedition AND the Wood Textures designer series papers are ones you can choose...there's just a few more days to take advantage and stock up on these and other favorites before the sale ends on July 31st!
Be sure to check back on Thursday when I'll be participating in the Ink & Inspiration Blog Hop with some very talented demonstrators from all over the world! See you then!
